Jak 3: Guard Animations - Shield?!?
The guards in Jak 3 are basically just copy-pasted directly from Jak II, including most of their animations. But it seems they wanted to give them shield mechanics at some point. We have already seen the unused shield sphere of the guards, which was likely just a placeholder.
We can safely assume that the shield animations seen in this video were going to be accompanied by a shield model as well.
Having actors with physical shields was something that Naughty Dog already worked with. See the "Centurion" enemy of Jak II for example.
We can believe that if they wanted to implement it for the guards, they could have done so because they had the necessary expertise and experience. So maybe they cut it because it didn't feel good in gameplay?

Jak X has a race track called 'Haven City'. I basically ported it to Jak 3, and went through it with a Zoomer. With this game only being in production for 5 years I would be surprised if the shields & giant robots were cut very late in the game, considering the robot still appears even on PS2 by way of glitch. The giant robot being removed from defend HQ seems to be to decrease the difficulty since Jak 2 was ridiculed for its difficulty. The Robot seems to be an absolute UNIT to try and fight lol pure speculation on my part. Great work and many thanks to the open goal team & community, saving the best series on PS2!
Man I remember having this demo disc as a kid. I either watched this once a day or played the Misty Island demo back to back. One day my dad came home from work with the game and this was all I played 😭

No real need for OpenGOAL for that. Just change how much height you gain when flapping. By default, even with best timing, it is just not enough to maintain your height.

Probably possible. Guards riding vehicles is mostly just an illusion. But yes it is possible, and I did some tricks to see it. But it is not in the video, nor in the changes that I ended up pushing, because it was an ugly hack.

That's awesome. Looks like that Jak wasn't the only one to get side walk after all. I think it could be intersting to see Krimson gards defending some of them while the others are attacking the enemies. Do u think the shield was already made or not yet, meaning that only the animations were made at this point ?
I highly doubt that the animations were made without a physical shield model already existing. But the model is gone now, nowhere to be found.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a shield model, it was likely removed long ago.. From the animation it is evident that guards were going to have shields on their backs that they could equip.
@@LuminarLightYeah definitely looks like they would. I'm sure the community will find a way to have it be used with there mod given enough time. Right after this is finished of course.

Perhaps it was a good thing the shield was left unused. 1. It would only make sense in Jak 2 when guards attack you all the time. 2. It would make Jak's Eco Shield™ less speshul.
Honestly it would've made sense to have the guards with the bubble shields during the war. Wonder why they decided to cut it.
I love watching animations in general, you can see the amount of care and detail many of these people did for these games. I also find it funny this dropped the same day a ND interview dropped talking about various things, including animation and how "hand-animating is now obsolete".

I never realized the KG tattoos had some sort of meaning, is there any mention of the tattoos in the final game or the manual? I don't remember anything mentioning those, weird that a deleted scene mentions that. lol
It really sucks that the hellcat was barley used. I would have love to drive them around the city like in Jak 2. But with opengoal we can bring some things back maybe. Giant dark jak is one example.
There are still references to dark giant, but I didn't look into it yet. I don't expect everything to still be there from Jak II.

I kinda hate that the Freedom League shields were cut, it would've helped show the difference between Torn's leadership valuing the lives of his soldiers and the Baron's leadership treating the Krimzon Guard like cannon fodder

Holy shit. Jak 3 is my beloved game from childhood. First time i saw this masterpice - i really thought that THIS is the best game out there and PS2 becomes my personal best console, ONLY cuz Jak 3 was in it. And after 18 years seeing that game takes such treatment - brings me joy and happiness. Can't wait to try it out for another walkthrough then it's release on OpenGOAL Big thank you!

Crazy how you can get it to spawn but don’t know what it is or how to make it appear.
It spawns as a giant if there is a specific flag set. I couldn't find where this flag is set. But it was easy to remove this condition.
